The War at Home Memorial is dedicated to the men and women who fought for the U.S. overseas and paid the final price here at home. The memorial is meant to remind us of our loss, amend the past, honor the present, and prevent the tragedy of veteran suicide from happening in the future.
It includes 20 steel silhouettes that stand 10 feet tall, are 4 feet wide, and weigh 1,000 pounds as each is mounted atop a beautiful piece of black granite. Each monument silhouette was traced from an actual photograph of a Veteran who lost their battle to suicide following their return from war. The name, rank, and military branch etched into a tag at the base of each silhouette identifies the Veterans memorialized here.
The City of Broken Arrow, Mission 22, and The Muscogee Nation will officially dedicate the national memorial during a public ceremony in Veterans Park on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include a military flyover, speakers, songs, 21 Gun Salute, and Taps.
The ceremony will be live streamed on the City of Broken Arrow Facebook page.
PUBLIC PARKING - Due to the Rooster Days carnival, parking at Central Park across from Veterans Park will not be available. Limited parking will be available to Mission 22 attendees at the Family Aquatic Center. Parking spaces along Main Street will be accessible at approximately 9:15 a.m. following the conclusion of the Rooster Days 5k & Fun Run. Keep in mind, Main Street between Memphis Street and Pittsburg Place will be closed to vehicles. We recommend carpooling, if possible.
SEATING - Chairs placed in Veterans Park will be reserved for the families of the memorialized Veterans and dignitaries attending the ceremony. The general public is encouraged to bring chairs.
21 GUN SALUTE - This salute will happen near the conclusion of the ceremony. Please take the necessary precautions if you are bothered by loud noises.
