The City of Broken Arrow has one of the finest outdoor warning siren systems in northeastern Oklahoma, and it’s about to get even better with the addition of 10 new, state-of-the-art sirens.
City of Broken Arrow Emergency Management Director Jamie Ott learned a Notice of Intent has been approved by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management that will provide grant assistance for additional sirens from the State Hazard Mitigation Funding Program.
“Basically, we are paying for three sirens, but we will get seven others for a total of 10 additional sirens,” Ott said at a City Council Meeting held Feb. 15.

The City Council unanimously approved a new Overlay District that reimagines New Orleans Square.
This new urban design framework comes after more than two years of consultations and study with area property owners, two consulting firms, City staff, and a seven-person New Orleans Square Advisory Committee. The new zoning document will guide the area's future growth surrounding the intersection of West New Orleans Street and South Elm Place.
Its goal is to encourage redevelopment in and around the existing shopping centers in the area and encourage growth in underdeveloped and underutilized land. It is also intended to foster new residential and mixed-use development.

When the Rose District Farmers Market opens its 19th season on Saturday, April 2, it will be the first-time eligible shoppers can use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at the market.
“These programs ensure that all citizens of Broken Arrow have the opportunity to shop from our fine vendors,” said Community Development Director Larry Curtis. “This has been years in the making and through team effort, this coming season, we will be able to offer the program.”

Improvements are on the way for one of Broken Arrow’s most popular parks. Jackson Park, located near Washington (91st St.) and Garnett Road, will soon have a 70 percent larger parking lot and an accessible restroom facility on site.
The existing parking lot will be closed, due to construction, beginning Monday, Feb. 21. It will be closed for up to three months and is expected to reopen in mid-May, weather permitting.
The new restroom will have two stalls in the women’s room and one stall and one urinal in the men’s room.
Exterior water fountains, complementary to the existing park structures, are also a part of this project. The parking lot expansion will improve the existing parking lot from 53 spaces to approximately 83 parking spaces.
