As attorney general, one of my top priorities is protecting
Oklahomans from those who jeopardize the safety or health of our citizens
through fraud and deception. This week, we saw the culmination of a six-month
investigation by our office that led to the arrest of an Oklahoma abortion
doctor who was prescribing abortion-inducing drugs to women who were not
pregnant. Oklahoma women should be able to trust that the advice they
receive from their physicians is truthful, accurate and does not jeopardize
their health. This type of fraudulent activity and blatant disregard for the
health and well-being of Oklahoma women will not be tolerated. Our office will
keep you up to date as this investigation continues.
Another part of the job of attorney general is protecting the
interests of the state of Oklahoma, and this week we sued the administration
over the president’s unlawful executive actions on immigration. The
Constitution doesn’t give the president the authority to rewrite our nation’s
immigration laws but that is exactly what the president is trying to do through
his executive actions. The president has a constitutional responsibility to
faithfully execute the laws as passed by Congress and he is not. Oklahoma will
work to stop the president’s unconstitutional actions.
Finally, this week Dr. Tom Coburn gave his farewell address to the United
States Senate. Dr. Coburn has served our state and our nation with honor,
integrity and courage. We will miss his work in the Senate to provide oversight
and eliminate wasteful spending in order to preserve opportunity and freedom
for the next generation of Americans. In case you missed it, I encourage you to
watch Dr. Coburn's farewell speech. As usual, Dr. Coburn had some parting words
of wisdom for his Senate colleagues.
Have a blessed weekend,
