Columbus – Staff Lieutenant Ray E. Martin was promoted to the rank of captain today by Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Training Academy. Captain Martin will transfer from his current assignment at the Piqua District Headquarters to serve as commander in the Office of Field Operations, Licensing and Commercial Standards.
Captain Martin began his Patrol career in May 1991 as a member of the 121st Academy Class. He earned his commission in November of that year and was assigned to the Bowling Green Post. He was selected as Post Trooper of the Year twice. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the Defiance Post to serve as an assistant post commander. In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and transferred to the Toledo Post to serve as post commander. In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of staff lieutenant and transferred to the Office of Field Operations to serve as the inspecting officer. As a staff lieutenant, he also served in the Office of Personnel, the Patrol’s Training Academy and Piqua District Headquarters.
Captain Martin received a Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) from the Law Enforcement Foundation and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police in 2002.
