Lisbon woman indicted on food stamp fraud

(CANTON) – A Lisbon woman has been indicted by a Columbiana County Grand Jury on food stamp fraud charges.

Annette L. Reitz, 46, was indicted on illegal use of food stamp and theft, both fifth degree felonies, as well as a first degree misdemeanor theft charge.

Agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit began investigating after being contacted by the Salem Police Department in June. An individual reported their food stamp card was stolen. The individual reportedly gave Reitz the card and PIN to purchase items for them. Reitz used the card, but did not purchase the items instructed and did not return the food stamp card.

Reitz was arraigned in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on September 1 and remains free on bond. The next court appearance is scheduled for September 7.

If convicted Reitz could face jail time, fines and be forced to pay restitution.

The food stamp program provides nutrition assistance to low-income individuals and families. If you know of any locations or individuals who are misusing food stamps or the electronic benefits transfer card (EBT) please contact OIU at #677.
