Two of 22 businesses sold to underage during alcohol compliance checks in Wadsworth

(CANTON) – Agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit and officers from the Wadsworth Police Department conducted joint alcohol compliance checks on May 11. A total of 22 locations were checked with two businesses selling to an underage individual.

During the project, underage confidential informants were sent into the liquor permit locations to determine if the location would sell alcohol to a person under 21.

Officers charged Tiffany Garrison, 27, of Akron with sale/furnishing beer to a person under 21. Agents administratively charged Beverage Center of Wadsworth, 300 South Main Street, with furnishing beer to a person under 21 years and sale of beer to a person under 21.

Amador Salazar, 37, of Akron, was also charged with sale/furnishing beer to a person under 21. Administrative charges were also issued to Patrons Best Grill Wadsworth, LLC., 1154 Hinkle Drive.

Both Garrison and Salazar were summonsed to appear in Wadsworth Municipal Court where they both face maximum penalties of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The administrative case will be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission at a later date. Possible administrative penalties include fines, suspensions, or revocation of the liquor permit.

Each location checked and refusing to sell will be receiving a letter of appreciation for their efforts in keeping alcohol out of the hands of underage individuals.
