Summer Youth Work Experience Training Now Available

2019 VR Provider

Hello Vocational Rehabilitation Providers,

Summer Youth Work Experience 2022 preparation and training is here!

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) offers Summer Youth Work Experience services as a cornerstone for career and personal development for youth with disabilities each year. To kick start the Summer Youth season, OOD provides Summer Youth Training for providers early in order for students, families, counselors, and providers to plan ahead. Because of the incredible response we received to the Summer Youth Work Experiences: Provider Training Preferences Survey in November, the training is being provided in an on-demand video format to allow providers to watch the training at their convenience. The on-demand training consists of five short modules, with most modules averaging less than 30 minutes. The total training time is less than past live three-hour trainings.  The five training modules include:

  • Module 1: Summer Youth Work Experience Service
  • Module 2: Summer Youth Site Collection Tool
  • Module 3: Referrals, Authorizations, and Reports
  • Module 4: Summer Youth Transportation
  • Module 5: Safe & Sound (SIRF Training)

The training is available beginning January 14, 2022. At least one person from each provider agency that plans to organize Summer Youth Services and is approved in the Provider Management Program (PMP) must view the training and complete the acknowledgment in Ohio Learn.  To view these training modules, you will need to log into OHID and launch Ohio Learn.  If you do not have an OHID account, you will first need to create an account (see attached document for details on creating an account).

After viewing the training, please submit any questions to PCMU by completing the Summer Youth Work Experience 2022 Provider Q&A Questions Form by January 24, 2022.  Questions will be answered during an optional live Q&A session via Microsoft Teams on Friday, January 28 at 10:00 a.m. The Q&A session will not be recorded; however, a FAQ will be emailed to providers after the session. An American Sign Language interpreter will be available for the Q&A session.   To request an ADA reasonable accommodation for this training, please contact Melanie Seckler (melanie.seckler@ood.ohio.gov) no later than January 14, 2022.

Attached you will find a job aid on accessing and completing the training in Ohio Learn, along with the PDF of each PowerPoint Module, Orientation Day checklist sample, Code of Conduct template, Site Collection Tool, and Family Youth Letter.

We look forward to a great new year!
