What's Inside:

OOD and Partners Exceeding Goals

With seven weeks remaining in the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY), all four OOD regions, our Employment First counselors, and the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities team have exceeded their closure goals for the year!

Furthermore, as of August 14th, the BVR/BSVI program in total has assisted 4,715 individuals, which surpasses last year’s program performance by 135 more individuals and exceeds the FFY 2015 program goal of 4,695.

Congratulations to our program staff and partners for their hard work over the past year and continued efforts throughout the remainder of the fiscal year.  Well done!!

2015 YLF a Success

YLF Statehouse 2015

As we noted last week, the 2015 Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) was held August 2nd through August 6th here in Columbus.  Student participants, staff, and volunteers all agreed this year was another successful week of mentoring and leadership development.

Thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who helped make the event such a success.  We appreciate the support of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (MHAS) and the Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities (GCPD).  We also wish to recognize State Senator David Burke (R-Marysville) and State Representative Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) for speaking to the YLF delegates on their visit to the Ohio Statehouse.

OOD to Participate in Job Training Partnership Ribbon Cutting Event

We are excited to be participating in a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new training partnership between Cuyahoga East Vocational Education Consortium (CEVEC), Mayfield City Schools and Jergens, Inc., a Cleveland manufacturing company.

This new training program is designed to prepare students for careers in manufacturing. The program involves full-day onsite training and job skill rotations that involve computer assembly, shipping and receiving, and facility maintenance just to name a few. Students who successfully complete the program have the opportunity for full-time employment at Jergens or another manufacturing company.

This program is in alignment with our new partnership with the Ohio Department of Education focused on transition age youth.  It is great to see school districts and technical centers partnering with businesses to prepare students with disabilities for a career.
