There are important changes to the federal grant system as of April 4, 2022
It is important to understand that applying for the BJA and/or COPS grant is a two-step process, each with its own deadline, and can take considerable time to complete. Start early so you will be ready to apply once the grant application window is opened.
-
Step 1: Before the grant window opens, submit an application to apply (SF-424 [it’s okay to provide preliminary estimations or responses] and SF-LLL) to Grants.gov. Processed forms will then show up in the “JustGrants” system, which will then allow you to apply for a grant.
To complete this process;
-
Beginning April 4, 2022 the federal government will stop using DUNS numbers and start using Unique Entity Identifiers (UEI) to identify entities/schools registered for a federal award in the System for Award Management (SAM).
- Schools will no longer need to contact a third-party to obtain an identification number. If your school is already registered in SAM, it has been assigned an UEI that can be found in your entity management information.
- Register or confirm your SAM registration is active. SAM registrations must be updated annually to remain current. An expired registration can delay or prevent application submission in Grants.gov and JustGrants.
- First-time applicants to JustGrants need to confirm the contact information (email address) for your Entity’s Electronic Business Point of Contact (E-Biz POC) in SAM. After an application is submitted in Grants.gov, your E-Biz POC will receive an email notifying them that an account has been established in JustGrants. This individual will be on-boarded as your Entity Administrator in JustGrants. Once on-boarded, that role can be reassigned to another Entity User.
- If your school is known to JustGrants, the Entity Administrator is whomever has already been assigned that role.
-
Step 2: Once the grant application is opened, submit a full grant application and attachments through JustGrants.
