June 2021 Human Trafficking Update

A brief overview of current news and updates on Ohio's anti-trafficking movement


The Supreme Court of Ohio released its 2021 Juvenile Court Human Trafficking Request for Applications to improve outcomes for child and youth victims of human trafficking in partnership with the Governor’s Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force.

The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 81, a measure that would reform licensure requirements for individuals performing massage in Ohio in order to prevent and respond to human trafficking.

The 2020 Federal Human Trafficking Report found that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio charged the second highest number of defendants in human trafficking cases in 2020.

Leaders representing global anti-trafficking organizations called on G7 Heads of State and Government to address the issue of forced labor in an open letter.

Two Columbus men were indicted on charges related to a human trafficking operation. 

A northeast Ohio doctor convicted of sex trafficking a minor was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
