Director of the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) discusses Ohio’s crucial role in the national fight
against illegal drugs

During the 2017 Drug Interdiction, Disruption & Reduction Symposium on May 31 in Columbus, the El Paso Intelligence Center’s (EPIC) Director/Special Agent K. Scott McRory’s keynote presentation will feature his national perspective of the opiate crisis and overall illegal drug challenges facing law enforcement and treatment and health care providers.

He plans to highlight the ongoing effort, results and successes in interdicting the drug supply lines and the critical ways information sharing is impacting the illegal drug problem across the nation, and here in Ohio.  Furthermore, he will discuss the Drug Incident Summary Collection Overview (DISCO) system, a national model for a data collection partnership between Ohio’s 41 drug task forces and EPIC, which illustrates how states and federal drug enforcement operations can combine resources.

Launched last month, DISCO was exclusively developed in collaboration among the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Ohio’s drug task forces, and EPIC to provide Ohio task force commanders and federal law enforcement leaders with more accurate and real-time statistics so decision-makers can prioritize interdiction operations, more readily develop patterns and identify trends to effectively deploy resources as needed. DISCO is a part of EPIC and is specifically designed so Ohio drug task force personnel can easily access the National Seizure System to report case-specific incidences. Director McRory will also discuss plans for DISCO to be rolled-out nationwide after being fully utilized by Ohio.

The El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) offers tactical, operational, and strategic intelligence support to federal, state, local, tribal, and international law enforcement agencies and provides de-confliction services, leveraging databases from both internal and external stakeholders. EPIC has relationships with law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and partner organizations in the international law enforcement community.

Other presenters at the symposium include Director John Born, Ohio Department of Public Safety, Director Tracy Plouck, Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, Daniel P. Meloy, CLEE, Colerain Township Administrator & Director of Public Safety, Joseph Bozenko, Chemist, Drug Enforcement Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Alex Alston, Ohio National Guard Counterdrug Taskforce and Captain Mike Brem, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Task Force Commanders’ Association.
