This month, Ohio Medicaid is recognizing the health challenges that disproportionately affect minority communities — including higher rates of diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and barriers to regular healthcare. Minority Health Month is a reminder of the importance of prevention, early screenings, and access to trusted care.
Together, we can support healthier communities across Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) has begun its Phase 2 rollout of the Next Generation MyCare program. In addition to the 29 counties that went live on January 1, the program is now available in Sandusky, Erie, Henry, Williams, Defiance, Paulding, Fayette, Fairfield, Licking, and Ashtabula counties. From now until August 1, the program will continue to roll out across the state. The program provides enhanced healthcare benefits to Ohioans who have both Medicaid and Medicare, helping you get the care you need all in one plan.
What does this mean for you?
Eligible members in these counties may start receiving your benefits through a Next Generation MyCare plan right now. When your benefits begin depends on whether – and when – you select a plan or are automatically assigned one.
- If you selected a plan before April 1, you are now receiving care through your selected plan.
- If you did not select a plan before April 1, you will be automatically enrolled in a plan for your Medicaid benefits. You should receive a letter from ODM with more information about your plan and its start date.
- If you want to get your benefits through a Next Generation MyCare plan sooner or change your plan, contact the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 800-324-8680. You cannot begin receiving care through a MyCare plan ahead of the date the program becomes available in your county.
- If you are eligible for the MyCare Ohio Waiver, you will start receiving services through the waiver once your plan starts.
Once you are enrolled with your plan, you should receive a new member ID card and other information explaining your benefits.
You can keep seeing your current doctors for a limited time after you start receiving care through the program. After that transition period ends, you’ll need to make sure your doctor is in your plan’s network.
