OhioRISE Celebrates Three-Year Milestone
In just three years, OhioRISE has become a life-changing force for tens of thousands of Ohio children, youth and families navigating the most complex behavioral health challenges. The statewide Medicaid managed care program is helping kids thrive at home, at school and in their communities — while keeping families together and reducing the need for hospitalizations and out-of-state care.
OhioRISE is a cornerstone of Gov. DeWine’s Children’s Initiative. It was built to address long-standing gaps in care and coordination that often result in families having to navigate complex, often siloed systems on their own. OhioRISE collaborates with 18 regional care management entities (CMEs) through Aetna Better Health of Ohio. Individual care coordinators serve as community-based experts in navigating care options, offering personalized case management for every child to better meet their emotional, behavioral and physical needs.
ODM Director Maureen Corcoran and OhioRISE supporters recently testified to the program’s success. You can watch that on our website.
It’s almost time for ODM’s annual open enrollment period. Look for a letter laying out your options beginning next month. The letter is to notify you of the open enrollment period, plans available, and how to change your plan.
Keep an eye out and look for more information on our website.
The Next Generation MyCare program will start on January 1, 2026. Through the program, care coordination is changing to better serve your needs.
Check out our new MyCare Care Coordination Document to learn about how the program improves care coordination. Keep reading to learn more about who may be on your care team and what to do if you have questions.
- If you have a Next Generation MyCare plan for both your Medicaid and Medicare benefits, you will have one care coordinator. Your care coordinator helps with all your care needs.
- If you have a Next Generation MyCare plan for both your Medicaid and Medicare benefits, and you are on a waiver, you will have a care coordinator and a waiver service coordinator. They work together to help you with your needs.
- If your Next Generation MyCare plan only covers your Medicaid benefits, you may have separate teams who help you with your Medicaid and Medicare benefits. These two teams may not work together, and you may have to be more involved in your care.
If you do not know who your care coordinator is, call the care management number on your member ID card for help. If you want to make changes to your care team, call your Next Generation MyCare plan.

If you would like more choice and control over your care, self-direction may be the service model for you! Self-direction is for Ohioans served by the home- and community-based waivers that empowers them to choose and better control long-term services and support needed to live at home.
People using self-direction make decisions about the type of care they receive, the way certain services are delivered, and the caregivers who provide those services. With self-direction, you determine the hourly wage for your self-directed caregivers, receive a waiver budget that is unique to your needs, and create a highly personalized service plan.
A wide range of services are available under self-direction. For more information about self-direction, please visit our website.
