Important update: MITS maintenance downtime

Ohio Medicaid is upgrading its claims payment system as part of our Next Generation of Managed Care program. Regarding the Ohio Medicaid Enterprise System (OMES) phased implementation approach, we wanted to alert providers that the Provider Network Management (PNM) module and MITS will be down for maintenance on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. through Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 7:00 a.m. Effective February 1 at 7:00 a.m., the new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solution and the Fiscal Intermediary (FI) will be operational. If you use PNM and MITS to conduct your Direct Data Entry Portal business, that functionality will also be available at 7:00 a.m. on February 1.

For important information on submitting claims and prior authorizations in the PNM and new the EDI please see our Submitting Claims and Prior Authorizations webpage on the Next Generation website. For more information about the FI please visit our Fiscal Intermediary webpage.

Ohio CANS assessors needed: Sign up for training!

OhioRISE logomark

Did you know that to enroll into the OhioRISE program, every child or youth will need a Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment? Today, we have over 2,200 Ohio CANS assessors, but we need more. Please consider taking the one-day, live virtual training and certification exam. There is no cost to you since fees are covered by the state. By signing up for this training, you can receive continuing education credits, eligible providers can bill Medicaid, and you don’t need to have a clinical background!

How do I become a certified Ohio CANS assessor?

To become a certified Ohio CANS assessor, you must complete a full-day CANS training session with the Child and Behavioral Center of Excellence (COE) and then register on the Praed Foundation’s website to complete the certification exam. The COE will provide you with a coupon code to waive the cost of the exam after you have completed the CANS training session. After obtaining certification, you will be able to register in the CANS IT System and complete a CANS assessment with a child or youth. CANS training sessions are offered on various days each month from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Check out the CANS Resources page of the OhioRISE webpage for more information on how to get certified and how to bill Medicaid for CANS assessments!

I am certified in a previous version of the CANS assessment. Am I able to conduct Ohio Children’s Initiative CANS assessments?

CANS Booster training is available to assessors who were certified in a previous version of the CANS assessment. Booster training allows CANS assessors certified in an earlier version to conduct Ohio Children’s Initiative CANS assessments until their next certification date, at which time the assessor must certify in the Ohio Children’s Initiative CANS.

I am already certified as an Ohio CANS assessor. What professional development opportunities are available to me?

The COE launched the CANS Learning Community as a professional development opportunity for Ohio CANS assessors. The learning community meets monthly for a semi-structured group learning session. Each meeting includes a 10-15-minute learning session on advanced technical content to enhance your skill development. Afterwards, the group reflects on the learning material, engages in questions and answers, and learns from one another. Additional information about the CANS Learning Community and other opportunities available for certified Ohio CANS assessors can be found on the CANS Resources page of the OhioRISE webpage.

ODM announces upcoming training dates prior to each upcoming month on the OhioRISE webpage. For questions or concerns related to course registration or enrollment for any COE-delivered trainings, please contact hxd256@case.edu. For any additional questions, please contact the OhioRISE mailbox.
