OSHIIP a Partner in National Consumer Protection Week Educational Activities
National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) is March 1-7 and the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) is participating in several government sponsored engagement activities.
The Social Security Administration and the Office of the Inspector General are partnering with government entities, including OSHIIP, for the 7th Annual Slam the Scam Day on March 5. This effort continues the commitment during NCPW to raising public awareness about government imposter scams. Visit the Slam the Scam Resources page for educational information and social media toolkits, printable resources such as infographics, and other outreach materials designed to help share scam-prevention messages.
OSHIIP is also a partner in the Office of the Ohio Attorney General’s NCPW consumer workshops and events. The educational engagements focus on privacy protection, managing money, and avoiding scams.

Spotting and Reporting Misleading Medicare Marketing and Sales Practices
Most agents who sell certain Medicare plans work honestly to connect people with the right coverage. However, there have been some documented cases of questionable sales practices, including: Removing beneficiaries from traditional Medicare without their knowledge or consent. Enrolling individuals in plans they cannot afford. Misrepresenting whether a physician or hospital is in-network.
If something seems questionable or concerns are raised, it should be reported to the Ohio Department of Insurance. Allegations are referred to the Fraud and Enforcement Division for review. Reporting concerns can make a meaningful difference.
Consider reviewing and sharing this guidance outlining what insurance agents can and cannot do, as well as how individuals can protect themselves from misleading sales practices.
