State of Ohio Takes Action Against Unlicensed Insurance Entity
by Judith L. French, Director
The mission of the Ohio Department of Insurance is to serve and protect the state's insurance consumers.
Over the past several months, the Ohio Department of Insurance and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office have received numerous consumer complaints alleging that Thin Blue Line Benefits Association, LLC (Thin Blue Line), a Texas limited liability company that sells health insurance coverage to police officers, firefighters, and civilian support workers, may be operating as an unlicensed insurer in Ohio.
The Ohio Attorney General filed a motion in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and received a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Thin Blue Line. The motion also requested that the Ohio Department of Insurance be appointed as conservator to help preserve the company’s assets, which the court granted. A hearing for a permanent injunction is scheduled for July.
We understand that many individuals may be impacted by this situation. If you filed a complaint with the Ohio Department of Insurance, thank you, your information is helping to guide our response. If you have not yet filed a complaint but wish to do so, please complete our consumer complaint form. For questions, please contact us at 800-686-1526 or consumer.services@insurance.ohio.gov.
Updates about Thin Blue Line will be posted on our website, insurance.ohio.gov.
