Medicare and Cognitive Health: Understanding Coverage and Support
Did you know that Medicare Part B, which is part of Original Medicare, covers a dedicated visit with a doctor or healthcare provider to evaluate cognitive function? This visit can help identify or confirm conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and includes the development of a care plan tailored to the individual’s needs.
Cognitive assessments may also be included during other appointments, including the yearly Medicare preventive “Wellness” visit. These evaluations can detect signs of cognitive impairment, such as memory problems, difficulty learning new information, trouble concentrating, managing finances, or making everyday decisions.
It is important to recognize that symptoms of confusion or memory loss can also be caused by conditions like depression, anxiety, or delirium. A thorough assessment helps determine the underlying cause and guides appropriate care and support.
