Older Americans Month: Flip the Script on Aging
Every May, the observance of Older Americans Month serves as a time to recognize the contributions of older Americans, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm a collective commitment to supporting older adults.
The 2025 theme, Flip the Script on Aging, focuses on transforming how society perceives, discusses, and approaches aging. It encourages individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes and dispel common misconceptions.
This year’s observance honors the contributions of older adults, explores the many opportunities for staying active and engaged throughout the aging process, and highlights the potential for purpose, exploration, and connection that aging can bring.

Accessing Mental Health Care with Insurance
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to highlight the importance of mental well-being and the support systems available to assist individuals and families.
The Medicare & Your Health Benefits booklet provides detailed information about mental health insurance coverage. It outlines eligibility requirements, covered services, treatment options for substance use disorders, and available assistance for individuals with limited income and resources.
For individuals who are not enrolled in Medicare but need help understanding or accessing mental health benefits through a health insurance plan, the Ohio Mental Health Insurance Assistance Office (MHIA), a program of the Ohio Department of Insurance, serves as the state’s official resource. MHIA staff offer guidance on available options and work to ensure access to appropriate mental health care.
