Understanding the type of health insurance plan is essential for determining the mental health and substance use disorder benefits it offers. Here’s how to find out!
- Check the certificate of coverage issued by the insurer or provided by the employer
- Contact the employer's human resources office
- Contact the insurer (there should be a telephone number on the back of the insurance card)
- Contact the insurance agent who sold the policy

New Effort to Improve Care Coordination and Reduce Fatal Drug Overdoses
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Steven Schierholt announced that Ohio’s prescription drug monitoring program, known as the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System, will begin alerting healthcare providers about patients who have experienced a non-fatal drug overdose. These alerts are intended to improve care coordination and promote access to medication for opioid use disorder and other tools to prevent fatal overdoses.
Work Group Recommendations to Help More Ohioans Access Mental Health Treatment
Ohio continues to take bold steps to ensure all people facing mental health challenges are able to access care in the best setting for their needs. Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director LeeAnne Cornyn released the final recommendations of the Governor’s Work Group on Competency Restoration and Diversion. The recommendations aim to free up more beds in the state’s psychiatric hospitals, while also expanding local options for mental health treatment and support across Ohio.
