How Does MHIA Support Mental Health Advocates and Healthcare Providers?
The Ohio Mental Health Insurance Assistance Office (MHIA) plays a pivotal role in supporting mental health advocates and healthcare providers navigate the intricate landscape of mental health insurance benefits within health insurance plans.
MHIA serves as a crucial resource hub for advocates and providers and works to ensure that mental health services are accessible and adequately covered under insurance plans in Ohio.
MHIA equips advocates with resources and guidance for supporting mental health service seekers, including help with insurance policies, denials, appeals, and legal compliance. They also provide educational materials and training sessions.
MHIA helps healthcare providers by providing information for them to support their patients with navigating mental health services insurance challenges, including billing procedures, prior authorizations, reimbursement issues, and claims disputes.

Governor DeWine Cuts Ribbon on New Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare Facility
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director LeeAnne Cornyn hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in May to unveil the all-new Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare hospital in Columbus.
“As we prepare to open the doors to this new hospital, we are also opening the doors to a new era for Ohio’s mental healthcare system,” said Governor DeWine. “This world-class facility offers the space and resources necessary to provide more patient-friendly treatment strategies for individuals facing serious mental health challenges. We believe this new hospital will open more pathways to recovery and enhance our ability to transform lives.”
Since taking office, Governor DeWine has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing State of Ohio behavioral health tools and resources, including establishing the Ohio Mental Health Insurance Assistance Office within the Ohio Department of Insurance, to respond to and help address mental health challenges in communities across Ohio.
