OSHIIP is a program of the Ohio Department of Insurance and the state's official Medicare educational and counseling program.

Inflation Reduction Act and Medicare Changes
The Inflation Reduction Act (access the implementation timeline here) provides meaningful financial relief for millions of people with Medicare by improving access to affordable treatments and strengthening the Medicare Program both now and in the long run. The new drug law makes improvements to Medicare that will expand benefits, lower drug costs, keep prescription drug premiums stable, and improve the strength of the Medicare program.
Individuals with Medicare Part D who have low incomes will benefit from expanded financial help with prescription drug cost-sharing and premiums. The low-income subsidy program (LIS or “Extra Help”) under Medicare Part D will be fully available to certain people with Medicare with limited resources who earn less than 150% of the federal poverty level starting in 2024.

Cut Medicare Prescription Drug Costs with “Extra Help”
Due to a federal law change, Ohioans on Medicare may qualify in 2024 for even more savings through the Extra Help program. The program helps some people pay for their Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) costs, including premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.
