July 2022
Mental Health Insurance and RecoveryOhio
by Judith L. French, Director
In July, Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month was observed. It provided an important opportunity to bring awareness to the mental health challenges underrepresented groups face and to help ensure that these challenges do not get in the way of treatment access and better outcomes.
In August, the Ohio State Fair continues through the first week of the month. The Department of Insurance is stationed in the Bricker Marketplace Building near the food court in our mental health insurance-themed booth. The booth design introduces fairgoers to our new Ohio Mental Health Insurance Assistance Office. Department staff are on hand at the fair with information and to answer insurance questions.
I will be at the fair on Aug. 5 for RecoveryOhio's Mental Health Day. Governor DeWine created the RecoveryOhio initiative to coordinate the work of state departments, boards, and commissions by leveraging Ohio’s existing resources and seeking new opportunities related to substance use and mental health. There will be behavioral health resources at state agency booths -- including the Department of Insurance -- to help identify support services for those in recovery and their families.
If you can, head out to the fair. If you have any questions about mental health insurance, please visit our booth. You can also access the information and services provided by our Ohio Mental Health Insurance Assistance Office at 1-855-GET-MHIA and www.insurance.ohio.gov/getmhia.
