Health Insurance Open Enrollment
by Judith L. French, Director
It's health insurance open enrollment season and that means Ohioans are busy evaluating their options for 2022 coverage. This can be a complicated and confusing process but we're here to help as a consumer protection agency and insurance resource.
Our website is full of insightful information and our health insurance experts are ready to answer questions.
For consumers with employer-provided health insurance, this tip sheet is a nice starting point to get an overall sense of how to make the best choice for you and your family.
For those considering other health insurance approaches, there's the federal government's Ohio exchange. This toolkit of ours provides specific Ohio exchange information, including a listing of companies selling products with premium data. Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15.
Medicare-eligible Ohioans have until Dec. 7 to select coverage, if they want to switch plans. Medicare experts from our Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) are conducting on-site and virtual Medicare Check-up Day events to explain how to evaluate plans, save money, and enroll. As part of our educational outreach, I recently joined Governor DeWine and OSHIIP staff for a virtual town hall -- Everything You Need to Know About Medicare Open Enrollment -- that you can view here.
Medicaid managed care open enrollment is also underway. A list of plans and other information is available on the Ohio Department of Medicaid website.
Please consider utilizing our experts for valuable assistance. If you have non-Medicare questions, call 800-686-1526 and email consumer.complaint@insurance.ohio.gov. Representatives from OSHIIP are available at 800-686-1578 and OSHIIPmail@insurance.ohio.gov. A listing of agents licensed in Ohio to sell health insurance products is available on our website.
We're here to help.
