With the informal start of summer, residents are out and about, traveling, enjoying farmers’ markets and enjoying the pleasantly warm weather. More than ever, your Franklin County Auditor’s office will be hard at work protecting consumers as they travel the county, attending events and making summer vacation trips.
At the gas pumps, Auditor’s office weights and measures inspectors have been diligently checking to ensure accuracy and that no credit card skimmers are present. Inspected pumps have stickers reflecting their certification, and a QR code that can be scanned should there be questions about the gas pump. Though finding skimmers has become very rare with the advent of chip-based card readers that encrypt information, the office must remain vigilant so that it remains rare.
At scanners and scales in places like farmers’ markets and grocery stores, inspectors are checking to ensure that scales are calibrated and scanned prices are accurate so that you get what you pay for. Two years ago, these inspections helped uncover problems at area Dollar General stores, which were rectified after the state filed a lawsuit against the company.
The office continues to offer eAlerts to protect homeowners from fraud. Any change to a property’s information with the Auditor’s office results in an immediate email notification to the homeowner. Signing up is free and can be done by searching for a property and then click on the red “Sign Up for or Manage Property eAlerts.”
Your Auditor’s office will continue to work hard to safeguard Franklin County consumers from fraud. We will remain watchful, working for consumers and making sure everyone can enjoy their summer activities.

Look for us in Your Community this Summer
Look for your Auditor’s office at various festivals and events this summer, educating and advocating about the services of the office out in the community.
Staff will be present at most of the major events in central Ohio, including but not limited to: ComFest, numerous Juneteenth celebrations, the Columbus Arts Festival, the Hilltop Bean Dinner, Columbus Children’s Festival, Stonewell Pride, the Franklin County Fair, Worthington Arts Festival, Bexley Porchfest, Reynoldsburg Tomato Fest and Paws in the Plaza.

Auditor’s Website: Tax Incentive Hub
Tax incentives are widely used in Franklin County and Ohio, and your Auditor’s office wants to ensure transparency regarding their use by municipalities. That’s why the office maintains one of the most comprehensive web tools available: the Tax Incentive Hub.
The Hub features interactive maps that show where the incentives are in use, the different types of incentives, data about the incentives, and the legislation that created each incentive. The maps can break down the tax incentives by municipality, so residents can see which are in use in their neighborhood.
The Hub also lists the effects each incentive has on government agencies that depend on tax revenue, and it links to specific information about each incentive at the individual municipality’s economic development website.

Apsara Market Wins May True Transactions Award
Apsara Market on the west side of Columbus has won the May True Transactions Award for its outstanding use of accurate scales and scanners in its sale of southeastern Asian foods. “Congratulations to the team at Apsara Market, who prioritize their customers through their use of accurate scales and scanners in the sale of their quality Asian goods,” Auditor Stinziano said.
Founded in 2006, Apsara market offers customers high-quality southeastern Asian foods and ready-to-eat dishes. It is located at 801 Harrisburg Pike just south of the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus.
