February Community Update

A graphic depicting the 2024 Value of your Vote mailer, sent to Franklin County residents who will have a levy on their upcoming March ballot.

The March Primary Election is approaching, and early voting is already underway. Several levies are on the ballot across the county, and it’s important to know the Value of Your Vote.

Once again, your Franklin County Auditor’s office is offering the updated Levy Estimator to help you understand how proposed levies would affect your property taxes.

To use the Levy Estimator, visit https://audr-apps.franklincountyohio.gov/LevyEstimator. After selecting your home’s location or entering a parcel number, the estimator will show both your current and estimated taxes if a levy or bond issue in your jurisdiction passes in the March primary election.

As a reminder, early voting is underway at the Franklin County Board of Elections, 1700 Morse Rd. in Columbus. For a list of hours, visit the Board of Elections website. Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by the day before the election, Monday, March 18, or dropped off at the Board of Elections office by Election Day, Tuesday, March 19, by 7:30 p.m.

Make sure your voice is heard this Primary election and Go Vote!

Programs Help Property Owners File Challenges with Board of Revision

To help homeowners who wish to challenge their final property value, the Auditor’s office is holding Board of Revision mobile walk-in clinics through the end of March at locations across the county. Times and locations are on the Auditor’s office website.

The clinics are educational events that walk property owners through the process of filing complaints and answer any questions that may arise throughout the filing process.

The Franklin County Board of Revision (BOR) has the authority to change property value assessments based on real evidence. Complaints can be filed online at the BOR website. The deadline to file with the BOR is April 1, 2024.

In addition, the Auditor’s office is teaming up with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus to offer the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP), which helps lower- and middle-income homeowners navigate the Board of Revision filing process.

This is the fourth year the office has offered the program, which is open to all Franklin County homeowners who make less than $75,000 in annual household income.

For the program, real estate and legal experts will hold in-person events, phone banks and zoom clinics where they assist property owner with determining if they should file a complaint, guidance with what value they should request, and help filing a complaint with the BOR. Program volunteers can also guide homeowners with what kind of evidence they should use in a hearing.

If needed, HAP also offers referrals for qualifying homeowners for possible further legal representation at BOR hearings.  Property owners who are interested in participating in HAP can fill out an online registration form or contact the office at (614) 525-HOME (4663) or auditorstinziano@franklincountyohio.gov.
