Commissioners' General Session Agenda for 10/20/2020

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners holds its General Session meetings every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. via video conference.  Details of the video conferences are below.   Also highlighted below are some of the commissioners' actions from this week, and resolutions scheduled for consideration at the upcoming meeting:

This Week

Integrated Leadership for Health and Human Services
This week, the commissioners announced the appointment of a new deputy county administrator to oversee all of the board’s health and human services agencies—Job and Family Services, Child Support, the Office on Aging, and Justice Policy and Programs.  Stepping into the new role will be Joy Bivens, who has headed Job and Family Services since 2016, as well as leading the development of the commissioners’ Rise Together Blueprint to address poverty, and the new Family Stabilization Unit.  Bivens will be one of three deputy county administrators working with the county administrator to oversee the commissioners’ 14 agencies and 1,500 employees.

Next Week

Smart Justice in Franklin County, Support for Vulnerable Residents
Several of the resolutions on the commissioners’ agenda for Tuesday are from the board’s Office of Justice Policy and Programs (JPP).  The first two are to accept $120,000 in grants from the State of Ohio, and then to subgrant those dollars to partner agencies in the community to address crime through more effective programs for preventing juvenile delinquency. Recipient agencies include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Community for New Direction, Central Ohio Youth for Christ, and the Godman Guild Association.  Other JPP resolutions this week include one to authorize a grant to provide services to incarcerated parents and their children, one to approve a contract for ongoing outreach and services for residents at high risk for overdose death due to opioid abuse, and another to support the ongoing SAFE Stations and Pathways programs, which support residents who are trying to break free of their addictions and to be successful when they’re released from incarceration, respectively.

Insisting on an Orderly and Peaceful Elections Process
The commissioners will also be voting Tuesday on a resolution affirming their commitment to an orderly and peaceful elections process, and noting that Ohio’s secretaries of state and the 88 county boards of elections have distinguished themselves in the trustworthy administration of elections for many decades.  The resolution goes on to say that any disruption of, or undue interference in, the casting of ballots and proper administration of ballot counting will not be tolerated in Franklin County, and that our security and civil liberties depend on respect for the rule of law and the orderly processing of ballots on election night and the following days.  The full text of the resolution is available here.
