Highlighted below are some of the resolutions/contracts scheduled for consideration at the upcoming meeting:

Commissioners’ Statement Against Hate Speech

In recent weeks, the commissioners’ have noted a concerning uptick in anti-immigrant, anti-Asian, and anti-Jewish speech online and in lots of communities around the state and nation.  They signed onto a statewide letter standing with the Asian-American/Pacific Islander community in these difficult times, and issued a statement condemning all such attacks.

Ensuring Treatment For Franklin County Residents Via a Surge Hospital Facility

On April 2nd, the commissioners passed a resolution authorizing contracts for up to $5 million to operate the Greater Columbus Convention Center as a 1,000-bed overflow hospital facility for COVID-19 patients.  This Tuesday, they’ll be voting on an $80,000 grant to the Central Ohio Trauma System for the coordination of the three hospital systems that are collaborating in that effort and the hiring of relevant contractors to set the facility up.

Working to Protect All Franklin County Residents

The commissioners will be considering two resolutions for the Office of Justice Policy and Programs on Tuesday aimed at improving services for victims and reducing overdose deaths in our community.  The first authorizes 12 sub-grants with community partner agencies to provide services for victims of crime and funds dedicated to domestic violence, sexual assault, and anti-stalking efforts.  The grants total $592,704, and the recipients include agencies such as CHOICES, Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services, the Ohio Hispanic Coalition, and the Mount Carmel Health Foundation.  The second resolution allows the Office of Justice Policy and Programs to collaborate with Franklin County Public Health under a grant from the Centers for Disease Control to better integrate social determinants of health data to study and reduce the number of overdose deaths in Central Ohio.
