Registration Checks

Licensees are required to submit a complete application for all new employees prior to working them. Employees should be placed on company payroll records with applicable taxes withheld. A licensee may choose to work an unarmed individual prior to receiving their registration card if they obtain a waiver signed by their client with the understanding that the registrant’s application has not yet been approved.

A complete application includes:

  1. Completed and submitted application
  2. New BCI criminal record check with fingerprints (No older than 30 days)
  3. Paid application fee

If any one of the above steps has not been completed, then the registration application is not considered to be in applied status. If you are paying a registrant by 1099, they would need to obtain their own company license.

The PISGS Enforcement section does field checks at various businesses to ensure proper registration. This ensures the safety of Ohio residents and that businesses are protected by ensuring security companies have insurance and vetted staff.  If guards are found to be unregistered, PISGS has the opportunity to educate the company to keep them compliant with Ohio law.

If your company has any question about registration, please contact PISGS at 614-466-4130 or email PISGLR@dps.ohio.gov.
