OPOTC Firearm Bearer (FAB)

Requalification Course

The initial private security firearm bearer (FAB) training course through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) is good for 18 months and requalification’s are good for 12 months.

The OPOTC FAB requalification course (8 hours) must be completed before the current OPOTC certificate expiration date. The date can be found in the lower right of the OPOTC certificate (example below).

OPOTC EXPIRATION DATE

The OPOTC certificate is required when submitting the FAB renewal to PISGS. Due to OPOTC’s manual process and high volume of applications received, it is recommended the OPOTC FAB requalification course be taken 90 days prior to the OPOTC certificate expiration date. This will ensure the OPOTC certificate is received in time to submit to PISGS with the FAB renewal application.

Registrants are not permitted to work armed if the FAB card is expired, or until the new PISGS FAB card is received.

A list of Ohio Peace Officer Training Directory of Private Security Training Facilities can be found on the OPOTC website at this link:  https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Law-Enforcement/Ohio-Peace-Officer-Training-Academy
