FAB vs. Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit
A concealed-carry permit (CCW) does not authorize a security guard or private investigator to carry a firearm on duty. Instead, you must have a PISGS registration card with a current Firearm Bearer (FAB) notation, to lawfully carry a firearm in your role as a security guard or private investigator.
Requirements to obtain a FAB with PISGS, include ALL of the following:
- A certificate of completion for a 20-hour private security basic firearms training course approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC);
- An FBI background check;
- An FAB application with PISGS; and
- Your registration card with the current FAB must be carried on your person while working armed.
|
Exception:
Currently commissioned Ohio peace officers do not need the 20-hour
firearms training. Instead, they can submit proof of commission and most
recent requalification score sheet from their police department.
