PUTNAM, HANCOCK COUNTY ARTISTS NAMED WINNERS IN ODOT DISTRICT 1 PAINT THE PLOW CONTEST

Miller City and Cory-Rawson win awards in the program's record-breaking year

Miller City High School was named the overall ODOT choice winner in ODOT District 1's annual Paint the Plow contest.

LIMA, Ohio (May 6, 2019) – Groups of students in Putnam and Hancock counties have been awarded top honors this year in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1’s annual Paint the Plow contest.

Miller City High School was voted the overall ODOT choice winner in this year’s Paint the Plow contest. ODOT District 1 employees voted for the best plow design at the district’s roadeo event on May 1. ArtAbility of Marimor Industries and Simon Kenton of the Hardin County Board of Developmental Disabilities came in second and third, respectively.

Cory-Rawson High School won the people’s choice award, which was decided based on social media votes. The Hancock County high school collected 654 votes on ODOT District 1’s Facebook page contest. Following Cory-Rawson in the close race were Miller City High School with 649 votes, McComb High School with 614 votes, Carey High School with 550 votes and ArtAbility of Marimor Industries with 533 votes.

ODOT District 1 has held a Paint the Plow contest annually since 2014. It allows high schools and vocational schools within the district’s eight-county region to paint an ODOT snowplow blade with a message of school spirit, Ohio pride, patriotism or safety.

This year, 23 groups across the district’s eight counties painted plows – a record number of participants for the program. The plows will be displayed in various community events throughout the district, when possible.

“We appreciate the talent that the students shared with us this year. They completed great work within a tight timeframe, so we’re excited to showcase their art throughout the district this summer,” said Chris Hughes, the deputy director of ODOT District 1.

County garage employees chose their favorite entry from their respective counties to go forward to the final round of judging for the overall ODOT choice award, as voted by all employees at the district’s roadeo event last week. The county winners are listed below.

Allen County: ArtAbility of Marimor Industries
Defiance County: Ayersville High School
Hancock County: McComb High School
Hardin County: Simon Kenton of the Hardin County Board of Developmental Disabilities
Paulding County: Wayne Trace High School
Putnam County: Miller City High School
Van Wert County: Crestview High School
Wyandot County: Carey High School

ODOT District 1 services eight counties in northwest Ohio, including Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot.
