Updated Poultry Submission Form Now Available

In order to continuously improve our service, the ADDL sought input from our poultry clients and updated our Poultry Submission Form. Notable improvements include:
- Premise Barcode is to be placed in the designated 'Premise Barcode' box at the TOP of the form;

UPDATED 'Species' section, including Chicken, Turkey, Waterfowl, Upland Game Bird, Sub-Part E, and Miscellaneous options;

UPDATED 'Specimens' (previously 'Type of Sample') section, including Serum, Egg, Fluff, Papers, Drag Swab, Cloacal Swab, Choanal Swab, Tracheal Swab, and Other;

NEW 'Reason for Submission', including Qualification, Health Monitoring, Movement, and Diagnostic/Sick Birds

ADDL Receives FDA Group Recognition Award for Antimicrobial Resistance and Whole Genome Sequencing Project Collaboration

The Ohio ADDL is part of a national collaborative team that recently received the FDA Group Recognition Award for their contribution to the "Vet-LIRN AMR and WGS Pilot Project Collaboration Group". This award category recognizes superior achievement of the FDA’s mission through teamwork, partnership, shared responsibility, or fostering collaboration and coalition to achieve FDA goals. The FDA Honor Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 2, 2019 and Renate Reimschuessel, Vet-LIRN Director, will be accepting the award on the group's behalf.

New Employee in Histology Lab
The ADDL welcomes Lisa Rawahneh to the laboratory! Lisa started her career at “THE” Ohio State University, initially working in the Medical Center in 2004 as a Histologist, and in 2005 furthering her career at the Comprehensive Cancer Center as the Lead Research Histologist. During her employment at OSU, she completed her B.S. in Health Sciences Management. Also, as the Lead Research Histologist at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, in collaboration with researchers there, she co-authored several high frequency cancer articles in peer-reviewed research journals. In 2016 she worked as Histology Lab Supervisor at a small community hospital in Lorain Ohio. In accepting this position at the ADDL, she has returned to her Columbus Histology roots. Welcome to the ADDL, Lisa!

New Employee in Bacteriology Diagnostic Lab
Dr. Alescia Roberto completed her undergraduate/graduate degrees at Iowa State University in 2008/2011 with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in microbiology science. In 2017, she earned her Ph.D. in Ecology Microbiology at Kent State University, where she not only designed and executed experimental projects to evaluate how the environment influences biofilm community composition, structure, and function, but also gained over 10 years experience with bacterial/fungal culture and identification using conventional and advanced technologies. We welcome Dr. Alescia Roberto to the ADDL team!
