Helicopter delivers flagpole for Rhodes
As part of the Rhodes Tower Modernization project, a new 50-foot flagpole has been installed atop the southwest section of the Rhodes Tower.
The new pole was lifted to the roof of the tower early Saturday morning by a commercial heavy-lift helicopter.
A large U.S. flag, measuring 8 feet by 12 feet, will be flown from the flagpole during the Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day holidays as well as other important national holidays. A smaller 6-foot by 10-foot flag will be flown on other days.
At 629 feet above street level, the Rhodes Tower has been the tallest building in Columbus since its completion in 1974. The addition of the new flagpole will now provide the highest-flying flag in central Ohio. The flag will be visible from a significant distance.
The Rhodes Tower will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its opening in 2024. The building is owned by DAS and managed by our General Services Division’s Office of Properties and Facilities.

DAS officials visit MARCS towers
Several members of the DAS leadership team were on hand for two events last week at Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS) towers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday at the new tower in the Village of Lucas, located in Richland County.
DAS Director Madden praised the project and the MARCS program. "We believe MARCS is the best program in this state and probably the country, and we're happy to be here today to see this tower open. We believe MARCS saves lives, both working with local enforcement and first responders, and then our technicians behind the scenes that make it all work," she said.
The MARCS Program Office is part of our Office of Information Technology. Read more about the Lucas tower project in the Richland Source.
Last week DAS officials also visited a MARCS tower in Jackson, Ohio.
