Over the Fourth of July weekend, fireworks were set off inside the food scraps drop-off at Dodge Community Center. The result: the food scraps collection bins have melted, the wooden enclosure has burned, and the decals on the metal signs have peeled from the inferno.
This site is under investigation with both Columbus Division of Fire and Division of Police.
While we will work as quickly as we can to re-open this site, it may be a while. In the meantime, we have set up a smaller and very temporary drop-off right next to the remains of the previous one. There are only two containers and the capacity is very limited.
If possible, please consider taking your food scraps to one of the other locations throughout the city. The 24/7 locations include:Â
-
Bill McDonald Athletic Complex, 4990 Olentangy River Rd., 43214
-
Scioto Southland Park, 3901 Parsons Ave., 43207
-
Beatty Park, 247 N. Ohio Ave., 43203
-
Howard Recreation Center, 2505 Cassady Ave., 43219
-
Linden Park Community Center, 1350 Briarwood Ave., 43211
-
Carriage Place Park Community Center, 4900 Sawmill Rd., 43235
Additionally, both Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers accept food scraps. They are located at 2100 Alum Creek Dr., 43207 and 1550 Georgesville Rd., 43228 and are open Tuesday-Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
