Thank you for taking the PUP pledge to help keep our parks, neighborhoods, and waterways clean!
We are working to improve the program and would love to hear from you. Please take 5 minutes to complete a short, anonymous survey about your experience and habits around picking up after your dog.
Your feedback will help us understand what's working, what's not, and how we can better support responsible pet ownership across Columbus and Franklin County!
Deadline to take the survey is Friday, May 16th.
2025 Pick-It-Up With Pup
When: Sunday, May 18th | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Where: Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center (4340 Tamarack Blvd, Columbus, OH 43229)
Join us with our friends, Keep Columbus Beautiful and the Franklin County Dog Shelter, for the 2nd Annual Pick-It-Up with PUP event!
This one-of-a-kind event lets you make a difference for both your community and adoptable shelter dogs! Volunteers will be paired with a friendly, leashed pup for a walk around the neighborhood - picking up litter as you go. It’s a fun, feel-good way to help keep Columbus clean while giving these lovable dogs a chance to stretch their legs and meet potential adopters.
All cleanup supplies will be provided - just bring your energy and love for pups!
Well-behaved, leashed, and dog-friendly dogs are more than welcome to join the fun. Whether you come with your own pup or just want to hang with the shelter dogs, we’d love to have you.

Meet Wooli!
Chief Engagement Officer (CEO) Black Russian Terrier | 2 years old | Loves back scratches
Fun Facts About Wooli
- Wooli is a trained community pup who attends festivals, markets, and neighborhood events across Columbus.
- He's a graduate of Buckeye K9's intensive 15-day residency training program and has completed National K-9's four-week training program - talk about top dog!
- Currently, he's paw-sitively close to earning his Canine Good Citizen certification from the American Kennel Club.
- His favorite activities? Making new friends, hanging out with his human, continuing his training, and (of course) getting back scratches.
- He's been spotted at the Columbus Arts Fest, Westgate Wags and Whiskers, Metro Parks Bark Bash, and dog and metro parks all over the city.
About Black Russian Terriers
- Originally bred as working dogs, Black Russian Terriers are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and protective nature.
- Despite their size, they're affectionate with their people and thrive on social connection - just like Wooli!
- These pups need training, mental stimulation, and regular grooming.
Why Wooli Matters
Wooli helps make our community events more welcoming and engaging. Whether he's drawing in curious kids or breaking the ice with a tail wag, he reminds us connection can come on four legs, too.
Say hi to Wooli if you see him at a PUP event - and if you'd like to give him some back scratches, please ask for permission first!

Meet Abby!
One Water Coordinator Human | 30 years old | Also loves back scratches
Fun Facts About Abby
- Though currently a cat mom, Abby loves dogs - she grew up with two Bichon Frise-Havanese mixes and a Poodle/terrier mix that looked like a Bichon, just with longer legs. She proudly speaks for the crusty white dogs!
- She has worked for the City for over 2 years and she took over the PUP program last summer.
- She's a Columbus native! She did live in TSUN for about 10 years when she was a child, but don't hold it against her.
- She has a BS in Biology from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Natural Resources from Virginia Tech.
- Her favorite activities? Crafting, reading, and re-watching her comfort shows.
Say hi to Abby if you see her at a PUP event - but maybe skip the back scratches…that’d be a little weird!

Are your neighbors not "doo"-ing the right thing?
We hear you - no one likes finding surprise "gifts" left by someone else's dog. While it is against the law to leave pet waste behind, it's not something that can be easily enforced.
That's where the PUP program comes in! Our goal is to encourage simple, responsible habits - like using pet waste bags and cleaning up after our furry friends.
We're also creating helpful tools for neighborhoods, including yard signs, door hangers, and flyers to spread the word.
Want these resources? Email us at pup@columbus.gov, or contact Abby at ajpope@columbus.gov or 614-645-8621.
Let's work together to keep our communities clean and pet-friendly!
