NYS Workers’ Compensation Board Renews Contract with NAM for Paid Family Leave Arbitration Services
The NYS Workers’ Compensation Board is pleased to announce that National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) will continue to provide arbitration services for the state’s landmark Paid Family Leave program. The Board and NAM have agreed to a three-year contract, with two optional one-year extension periods, which is the same structure of the original agreement that took effect with the launch of Paid Family Leave in 2018. The new contract takes effect on November 1, 2022.
Paid Family Leave provides eligible New Yorkers with job-protected, paid time off to bond with a newly born, adopted or fostered child; care for a family member with a serious health condition; assist loved ones when a family member is called to active military service abroad; and provide support when an employee or their minor dependent child is under an order of quarantine due to COVID-19. When there are claim-related disputes, e.g., disagreement over a denial, benefit amount, or issue with timeliness of payment, parties can request arbitration from NAM.
