Water Treatment Facility Update
Online as of Tuesday January 5, 2021

The Village of Millbrook is proud to announce that our new water treatment facility is now officially active. The new facility went online Tuesday January 5th. We now have a new filtration system added to the original water treatment system. This filtration system completes a $1.9 million upgrade to the Village water system that began in 2018. This upgrade includes refurbishing the water storage tank in 2019.

The Village of Millbrook Water system dates back to the early 1930’s. The system is composed of infiltration galleries that collect water from the ground which is then pumped to our 500,000-gallon storage tank on Haight Ave. Now, with the new facility, before the water enters the distribution system it is pumped through filters. The New York State Department of Health required us to add a filtration system to our water treatment process because our water source was designated as “Ground Water Under Direct Influence of Surface Water”. In order to accomplish this requirement, we tasked our engineering firm, Delaware Engineering, to design the new treatment system. Along with the addition of the new filtration system, we also made several upgrades to the facility.

A list of the major improvements are as follows:
  1. Built a new building to house the new filtration system and treatment chemicals.
  2. Installed new filtration system consisting of 2 filter trains. Each train houses one set each of 20-micron filters, 5-micron filters, and absolute 1-micron filters.
  3. Installed 2 brand new turbine pumps with new ductile iron pipes, shut off valves, and check valves for each pump.
  4. Installed 3 new 10-inch gate valves on the water mains.
  5. Installed a new computerized control system that monitors the filters, chemical pumps, storage tank level, clearwell level, turbine pumps, turbidity, chlorine level, and pH.
  6. Installed new chemical pumps for each chemical with a spare pump for each.
  7. Installed a new flow meter.
  8. Installed a chlorine and pH analyzer as well as turbidity monitors.
  9. Installed a new fire hydrant at the facility.
  10. Refurbished the shed that was onsite.
  11. Improvements to the existing pump building including a new roof, removal of the old deteriorating inactive chimney, new entry doors, a new ceiling and new heating system.
