The Long Island Watershed Action Agenda Public Comment Period Now Open!
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that the Long Island Watershed Action Agenda (LIWAA) is available for public comment. The LIWAA is a continuation of the success seen under the Long Island Nitrogen Action Plan (LINAP) and aims to expand the scope of work beyond nitrogen. The LIWAA represents a transparent blueprint for water quality improvements, aquatic habitat conservation, groundwater protection, and the public engagement necessary to ensure success.
With this Action Agenda, DEC is creating a Long Island Watershed Program (LIWP) that will establish a watershed approach to protecting the surface, coastal, and ground waters of Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Public comments are being accepted electronically until Friday, July 25, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Please submit comment to liwaterquality@dec.ny.gov with the subject line, “Long Island Watershed Action Agenda Public Comment”.
A webinar describing the Long Island Watershed Action Agenda will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
