DEC to Hold Presentation in Tannersville: How to Avoid Conflicts with Black Bears

Public Invited to Learn More About Living with Black Bears and Removing Attractants

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is inviting the public to attend a presentation at the Mountain Top Library on how to avoid conflicts with black bears.

"The mountain top communities in Greene County have a robust bear population and every summer we receive reports of bears being attracted to homes and businesses" said DEC Region 4 Regional Director Anthony Luisi. "Human-bear conflicts can be prevented through increased awareness of how to eliminate food sources for bears near people. DEC Wildlife Biologists will be on hand to educate people on 'living with black bears' and offer proven ways to remove attractants from their properties."

What: Living with bears

When: June 8, at 6 p.m.

Where: Mountain Top Library, 6093 Main St, Tannersville 12485

There is no cost to attend this presentation.

DEC encourages residents to report bear incidents by calling Region 4 Wildlife (during business hours) 607-652-7367 or 1-844-DEC-ECOS (1-844-332-3267) after hours and weekends. For more information on how to live responsibly with black bears, please visit DEC's webpage and the Bearwise website.
