Compost Research Scholarships Available

The Compost Research & Education Foundation is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship to assist college students with their compost research projects. The scholarship is available for undergraduate through PhD students studying at a college or university in the United States. The scholarship is for $4,000, and also includes an invitation to present research findings at a US Composting Council Annual Conference. Submit your application by April 16th, 2021.


Virtual Public Hearings - Food Donation & Food Scraps Recycling Law

Part 350 regulations will implement the requirements outlined in the NYS Food Donation & Food Scraps Recycling law. The law takes effect on January 1, 2022 and requires large businesses, those that generate 2 tons of wasted food per week or more, to donate excess edible food and recycle all remaining food scraps if they are within 25 miles of an organics recycler.

Persons wishing to comment on the proposed Part 350 regulations have the opportunity to submit written comments or make a statement at one of two public comment hearing webinars.

DEC will accept written public comments through April 27, 2021: FoodScrapsLaw@dec.ny.gov.
