This month’s resources are dedicated to educating the public about recycling right as we move into the month of November. To spread the message, please use the resources below (Facebook / Instagram posts, Twitter tweets, newsletter article and other resources) through the month of November via your social media platforms, newsletters, etc. Modify the order for the month as necessary to fit your needs. For more content visit the Recycle Right NY webpage

Week 1 Campaign Materials (Nov.15th is America Recycles Day)

Facebook/Instagram: November 15 is America Recycles Day (ARD), a nationally recognized day, dedicated to bringing awareness to and energizing recycling across the United States. During this celebration, we are encouraged to recognize the importance and impact of recycling and to take steps towards solutions that help to address the challenges of recycling today and protect the environment. America Recycles Day is the perfect time to be extra conscious about recycling right. No matter if you are at home, on the go, in the office or at school, you can reduce, reuse and recycle right in honor of America Recycles Day. Check with your local program about the materials accepted in your recycling bin to avoid contamination of the recycling stream and get involved in local ARD events. Week 3 Campaign Materials (Prepare to Reduce Waste During Thanksgiving)

Facebook/Instagram: As we prepare for Thanksgiving, a great way to show gratitude for the resources we have is to do our best to keep waste at a minimum. A little advance planning goes a long way and you can get a head start by estimating the amount of food you will need. You can also try to avoid single-use items such as disposable utensils, plates and bowls and make sure that your recycling bin is properly labeled and accessible to recycle with ease. #RecycleRightNY

Twitter: As we prepare for Thanksgiving, a great way to show gratitude for the resources we have is to keep waste to a minimum by estimating the amount of food you need, avoiding single-use items, and knowing how to recycling right.

The month of November brings two opportunities for promotion and celebration of proper recycling practices throughout New York State - America Recycles Day and Thanksgiving.

Awareness and Gratitude for Recycling this November

No matter if you are at home, on the go, in the office or at school, you can reduce, reuse and recycle right in honor of America Recycles Day.

Ways to Join the Celebration

  • Get involved by taking the pledge
  • Avoid contaminating the recycling stream. Check with your local recycling program on what materials are acceptable to put in your recycling bin.
  • Get involved in local ARD events. Be sure to follow all safety guidelines.

Reduce the Chances of Wasting Food

Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

  • If you’re short on plates, cups or utensils, you could borrow from a friend or family member to avoid single-use items.
  • Know your local recycling program rules. Recycle right with properly labeled and accessible trash and recycling bins.
  • Be sure that recyclables are free of food and liquids and paper and cardboard are dry.

Recycle Right NY is an education campaign focused on supporting efforts to reduce contamination in household recycling programs across NYS. The campaign focuses on educating residents about one recycling topic per month. Campaign materials including monthly text and photos, as seen above, are available for use in your own social media and digital and print newsletters.
