In the first two rounds of the program, municipalities purchased 104 clean vehicles, eliminating an estimated 866 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

A total of $225,000 remains in this round on a first-come, first-served basis. Rebates are available to municipalities that purchase (or lease for a minimum of 36 months) a new, eligible clean vehicle from a dealership in New York State on or after May 1, 2018 and place it into municipal service before July 26, 2019.

Plug-in hybrid electric, all-electric, or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with an electric range greater than 50-miles are eligible for rebates of $5,000. Those with 10- to 50-mile electric range are eligible for rebates of $2,500.

Applications are available only on the New York State Grants Gateway under the opportunity name “2018 Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Clean Vehicle (Purchase or Lease).” Information regarding registration in the Grants Gateway can be found on the Grants Management website,

Please note that rebates for ZEV infrastructure (i.e., electric vehicle charging stations and hydrogen fueling stations) will be announced separately at a later date.
