Webinar: Climate Smart Communities Grant Program

The Climate Smart Communities Grant program provides 50/50 matching grants to local governments of the State of New York for projects focused on climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas mitigation outside of the power sector. The eligible entities are cities, towns, villages, and county governments, including boroughs of New York City.

The 2019 round is now open through the Consolidated Funding Application. Applications are due by 4:00 PM, Friday, July 26, 2019.

In 2019, $11 million is available for implementation projects related to flood risk reduction, extreme event preparation, reduction of vehicle miles travelled (VMT), reduction of food waste, reduction of landfill methane leakage, and reduction of hydrofluorocarbons emissions from refrigeration and other air conditioning equipment.

In addition, $700,000 is available for planning, inventory, and assessment projects that are part of a strategy to achieve Climate Smart Communities Certification. This year there are 15 eligible project types that align with the requirements of 15 specific Climate Smart Communities certification actions.

DEC’s Office of Climate Change will provide a webinar on this grants program on Thursday, June 6 from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM. During the webinar, staff will describe grant program requirements, eligible project types, application evaluation and scoring, and useful information sources. Time will be reserved for staff to answer questions from the audience.

6. Audio via computer: To listen via your computer's built-in audio or via VoIP, click on "Call Using Computer" in the "Audio Connection" box, or go to the "Communicate" menu.
