DEC Requests Assistance from Hunters in Waterfowl Diet Study

Seeks Carcasses of Mallards and American Black Ducks Harvested in the Adirondacks

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is asking hunters that harvest Mallards and American Black Ducks within the Adirondack Park to provide the carcasses to assist in a study of the diet of these two waterfowl species.

The remains should be dressed out with the breast and other meat removed and the crop intact. The following information should be included with each carcass:

1. Harvest location (ex. Saranac River)
2. Township name (ex. Santa Clara)
3. General habitat description (ex. open water pond, or vegetated stream)
4. Date and approximate time of harvest (ex. 10/20, early morning)

The remains of ducks can be dropped off at the DEC Region 5 Wildlife Offices at 1115 State Route 86, Ray Brook, NY or 232 Golf Course Road, Warrensburg, NY. The remains can be dropped off fresh or frozen preferably in individual plastic bags with information attached.

The Adirondack Park lies within portions of both the Northeastern Zone and the Lake Champlain Zone.
