DEC Statement on Gloversville Sewage Leak

The following is a statement from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos regarding the sewage leak in Gloversville, NY:

"Under Governor Cuomo's direction, DEC staff immediately responded to a reported sewage leak in the City of Gloversville, NY on April 21, 2017, and our technical experts and engineers began assisting the community in their response. Through DEC and the City's efforts, engineers have bypassed the broken sections of sewer main and currently no sewage is leaking into the Cayadutta Creek."

"Since last week, my staff and I, as well as the State Environmental Facilities Corporation, have been in regular contact with Mayor King and city officials to assess the full extent of the damage and identify the needed short and long term corrective measures and state funding options for assistance. We have confirmed with the Department of Health that no drinking water supplies have been impacted, and out of an abundance of caution have alerted downstream intakes of the issue."
