DEC Hosts 7th Annual Jefferson County Youth Waterfowl Hunt

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) are again offering youth ages 12 through 15, an opportunity to hunt waterfowl with them this fall. This is the 7th year of the program.

The hunt is a two day event with an educational day located at the Watertown Sportsmen’s Club beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10th and a hunt day on Saturday, September 17th. “The program was developed to teach younger generations, that may not have the opportunity otherwise, how to hunt waterfowl,” said Judy Drabicki, Region 6 Director.

Interested youth hunters must possess a New York State small game license, and register with the Harvest Information Program (HIP). The event is absolutely free to the participants and all equipment will be provided if necessary.

Signup sheets are available at the Watertown Sportsmen’s Club, 17751 Dry Hill Road, Watertown;  Akins Archery, 25834 NY-12, Watertown; Gander Mountain (Salmon Run Mall, Watertown), VanTassel’s Gunsmithing, 30412 NY-37, Evans Mills; and MWR Parks and Recreation Office on Fort Drum.
