DEC Announces Sea-level Rise Projection Meetings

Public Comments to Help Develop Regulation

The public will have an opportunity to comment on projections of future sea-level rise at four public information and listening meetings the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today. The Community Risk and Resiliency Act (CRRA), signed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in September 2014, requires DEC to adopt a regulation establishing official state sea-level rise projections by January 1, 2016. CRRA also requires DEC and other state agencies to develop guidance on implementation of CRRA by January 1, 2017.

DEC staff will present background on the Community Risk and Resiliency Act, and scientific information DEC is considering as it develops its regulation to establish sea-level rise projections. Participants will have the opportunity to provide additional input for DEC's consideration before it proposes a draft sea-level rise projection regulation. Additional information on CRRA and the sea-level rise projection regulation is available.

Tuesday, June 23: 1:00 p.m. at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 340 Smith Road, Shirley, Suffolk County
