A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 3:00 AM Sunday through 6:00 PM Monday. Snowfall totals of 8 to 14 inches are expected, with the heaviest snow Sunday morning through early Sunday evening.
The City Manager has declared a Snow Emergency effective midnight Saturday. During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on all designated Snow Emergency Streets. Parking is also prohibited on certain signed streets once snowfall exceeds two inches. Free parking is available in select municipal garages.

Rental Heat Requirement
NY State requires landlords to keep spaces at a minimum of 68°F through May 31st.
If your rental is dipping below that mark, reach out to the New Rochelle Department of Buildings at (914) 654-2035 weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Any heating issues on the weekend can be reported to the Heat Hotline at (914) 654-4809.

Downtown Survey
The City of New Rochelle invites residents, business owners, and visitors to complete a new survey to help improve the downtown experience. Feedback will inform future planning and infrastructure efforts to make Downtown more accessible and user-friendly.

New Rochelle Launches Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee
The City is currently seeking 7 New Rochelle residents to serve as voting members of the Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee.
Residents who meet the eligibility requirements, and are interested in helping shape the City’s first Participatory Budgeting cycle, are encouraged to apply beginning on Friday January 23, Completed applications are due back to the City by 4:30 p.m. on Friday February 13.

Grit Ninja Debuts at Downtown REC
New Rochelle Parks & Recreation invites young adventurers to take on The Grit Ninja—an exciting indoor Ninja Warrior–style obstacle course at Downtown REC! This six-week program is open to kids in grades 3–5 and runs on Thursdays from February 5 through March 12, 5:00–6:00 PM, at Downtown REC. The fee is $210 for six weeks, and registration is required.

The City of New Rochelle invites the community to its Black History Month Recognition on Thursday, February 5, from 5:30–7:30 PM at City Hall Council Chambers. Tap and Ride Bee-Line Buses
OMNY officially launched on Bee-Line buses in January, allowing riders to tap and pay using a contactless credit/debit card, digital wallet, or an OMNY Card. To assist with the transition, riders can transfer any remaining MetroCard balances to an OMNY card at the OMNY Mobile Sales Van, which will continue to visit locations throughout Westchester.

Active Duty & Veterans Parking Available
The City of New Rochelle is honoring residents who currently or previously served in the United States Armed Forces through the Active Duty/Veterans Parking Permit Program, providing designated parking spaces in select municipal parking lots and City Park facilities.

 The City's new Vacant Storefront Registry supports the revitalization of New Rochelle's downtown and commercial corridors by improving communication with property owners, enhancing the appearance of vacant spaces, and reducing long-term vacancies. The registry provides the City with up-to-date data on storefront conditions and leasing activity, helping to strengthen the safety, vibrancy, and economic appeal of the city's business districts. All ground-floor, street-facing commercial spaces that remain unoccupied for 90 consecutive days are required to be registered with the City.
Food Scraps Recycling
Recycle your food scraps to reduce what goes to the landfill and incinerators. Compost bin kits are available for $20 at the Public Works office (City Hall, 515 North Ave). Kits include a 2-gallon countertop bin, a 6-gallon storage bin, and a roll of 30 compostable bags.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Benefits
The 2025–2026 Regular HEAP benefit opened December 1, 2025 and helps eligible households with heating and cooling costs, including emergency assistance if service is at risk. Governor Hochul also encourages eligible residents to enroll in New York’s Energy Affordability Program (EAP) for monthly utility bill discounts. If you are facing a residential electric or natural gas shutoff, contact the NYS Department of Public Service at 800-342-3355 (Mon–Fri, 7:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m.). Lead Rental Registry
New York State now requires certain pre-1980 residential buildings with two or more units, including owner-occupied properties, in parts of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Yonkers to register with the Lead Rental Registry. The requirement applies to ZIP codes 10550 (Mount Vernon), 10801 (New Rochelle), and 10701 and 10705 (Yonkers). The program mandates regular inspections and remediation by certified professionals to prevent lead poisoning. Registration is required now, and financial assistance is available for eligible property owners.
