 North and Hamilton Avenues surrounding City Hall will be transformed once again into a lively open-air marketplace on Saturday, September 13! From 11 AM to 5 PM, this much-anticipated community tradition will feature hundreds of vendors- from local artisans, artists, and crafters to food trucks serving up irresistible bites- alongside live music, family activities and entertainment for all ages.
ROADWAY ALERT: To accommodate the fair, several roads surrounding City Hall will be closed on September 13th from 7 AM to 7 PM, including North Avenue from Fifth to Lincoln, and portions of Hamilton, Horton and Winthrop Avenues.
Snapper Fishing Derby
Get ready to reel in some fun at the 22nd annual Kids Snapper Fishing Derby at Hudson Park on Saturday, September 13 from 9 AM to noon.
This family-friendly tradition for youth ages 6-16 celebrates the joys of fishing, the beauty of our waterfront, and a little friendly competition—all in one unforgettable day. All bait and tackle will be supplied but participants must bring their own fishing gear and must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place contestants.

Quaker Ridge Road Complete Streets Project- Submit Public Comments by September 18
Residents provided comments about the City’s final design for the Quaker Ridge Road Complete Streets project at a public hearing on Tuesday, September 9. The hearing, part of the City's proposed grant application to the Westchester County Complete Streets Municipal Assistance Program, started with a presentation by the City’s engineering consultants about the new roadway features, including lane redesign, pavement reconstruction, and updated traffic signals.
In response to questions raised by hearing participants for additional project data, including traffic volumes, the Design Approval Document and Final Design Report, along with the presentation slides, are now posted at https://engagenr.com/qrrcompletestreets/.
Residents who were unable to attend the public hearing can submit comments to CompleteStreets@newrochelleny.gov through Thursday, September 18.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
A solemn observance of the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001 was held on the front lawn of City Hall on Thursday. Under blue skies reminiscent of those that tragic day, elected officials, City staff and members of the public gathered to hear speakers including Police Commissioner Neil Reynolds, Fire Chief Andy Sandor and Harbormaster Sal Gugliara reflect on the lives lost, the selfless sacrifices of first responders and the importance of continuing on in their memory.

Become a Holiday Market Vendor!

New Rochelle is getting in the Holiday Spirit and pulling out all the stops for all ages with this festive Holiday Market in an indoor charming winter village setting in the heart of the downtown New Rochelle. The application deadline has been extended to September 21.
Makers/businesses selected for the holiday market will have individual spaces provided at an indoor facility located at New Roc City, 29 LeCount Pl, 2nd Floor, New Rochelle, NY, 10801.

Fall Youth Employment
New Rochelle youth and young adults ages 18-24 are encouraged to apply for fall positions through the New Rochelle Youth Bureau’s Fall Employment Programs. Each program operates up to 20 hours per week for six weeks during October and November and pays $16.50 per hour. The deadline to apply is Thursday, September 18 at 6 PM.

Seniors looking to stretch their food budgets this summer and fall with fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables may be entitled to a Farmers Market Coupon book. The coupon books are available at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center while supplies last to income-qualifying residents and are valid at any participating New York State Farmers Market.

Join the Elite Steppers!
The New Rochelle Youth Bureau is recruiting new members in grades 3-5 for STEP University-Elite Steppers. Through the sport of Stepping, participants learn teamwork, creative expression, increased skills and valuable life lessons in an atmosphere of unity and diversification.
Practice is three times per week to build skills and prepare for competitions and showcases. Tryouts will be held on September 26, 2025 from 3:30-5:30 PM at Downtown Rec.

2025-2026 School and Library Tax Bill
In January of 2025, the City Council adopted legislation changing the collection months for School and Library taxes from October and April to September and March. The first half of the 2025-2026 School and Library tax bill is now due on or before September 30th. The City's Tax Office has provided notice to all banks that make tax payments on behalf of a resident, via escrow, about this change in collection dates. New assessment dates will begin for the 2026 assessment cycle: December 1 – Taxable status date. Exemption forms due December 1- Valuation date February 1- Tentative assessment roll Third Tuesday in February – Grievance Day April 1- Final assessment roll May 1- Deadline for appeals filed with the County Clerk September 1 – School tax bill first half January 1- City tax bill March 1 - School tax bill second half June 1 – County tax bill

Glow in the Dark Party
Get ready to hit the dance floor! The City of New Rochelle Park and Recreation Department is turning back the clock with a 90’s Freestyle & Hip Hop Glow in the Dark Bubble Party on Saturday, September 20th at Hudson Park from 6:30-9 PM. The night will celebrate the best beats and rhythms of the 90’s, blending freestyle classics with the golden age of hip hop for the ultimate throwback experience. Guests ages 21 and over will enjoy food and drinks for purchase.

Residents facing eviction, having trouble paying their rent, in a rent dispute with a landlord, facing a loss of essential services like heat and hot water, or are facing other problems, can reach out to the Westchester County OHC to be connected to legal representation, counseling, financial assistance and other programs, provided through one of nine service providers that the County has contracted with.

Keep Sidewalks Clear and Safe
Maintaining the curb and sidewalk in front of your property isn’t just a common courtesy: it’s your responsibility. According to Sections 281-3 and 281-4 of the Code of the City of New Rochelle, property owners are responsible for keeping curbs and sidewalks abutting their property clean and free of litter and dirt, ice and snow, and animal feces.

Westchester Power
Westchester Power (Community Choice Aggregation, CCA) is a community-based bulk energy purchasing program designed to control costs and increase the use of renewable energy in Westchester County. New rates begin December 1, 2025. Letters will be mailed to homes in October. While the opt-out period is noted as October 17th, 2025 - November 16th, 2025, you can opt in, out, or switch supply at any time without penalties or fees, with freedom to select either 100% Renewable or 50% Renewable supply as you wish. Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Ban
Friendly reminder: Fall isn't here just yet! The use of gas-powered leaf blowers is prohibited from June 1st though September 30th. Aside from causing noise and air pollution, those using a gas-powered leaf blower in the banned window could face a fine. Anyone who observes the use of a gas-powered leaf blower during the banned window should call the NRPD at 914-654-2300 to report.

Do Trash Night Right
A friendly reminder: there’s such a thing as too big when it comes to garbage containers. City code requires trash cans be no larger than 32 gallons and weigh no more than 75 pounds when filled. And avoid waking up to loose waste scattered on your street by putting smaller bags of trash inside of a container and securely bundling cardboard boxes and cartons. Learn more

Violation of this code section shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $250 or by imprisonment of not more than 15 days, or both.
