Quality of Life PSA

Dog waste graphic

Clean up after your pet!

New Rochelle has over 830 registered dogs of all shapes and sizes, and it's estimated that their poop adds up to over 228,000 pounds per year.

Not only is dog waste left on the ground a Quality-of-Life concern, it can also be washed into storm drains that lead directly to our streams, lakes, and beaches. This waste carries harmful bacteria which can affect the health of aquatic wildlife, ourselves and our children.

Be prepared! Always carry a plastic bag when walking your dog to pick up waste and dispose of it in the nearest trash can.

There are fines for non-compliance: Failing to clean up after your pet may result in a fine of up to $250, up to 15 days in jail, or both (New Rochelle Code Chapter 89, Section 6).

Dog Licensing requirements
**All dogs over 4 months old must be licensed.
**A current rabies vaccination certificate with the owner’s name is required.
**If the owner is under 18, a parent/guardian is considered the owner.

Apply or renew Dog Licences at the Office of the City Clerk at (914) 654-2159 or visit newrochelleny.com/doglicense
